Flashback: Dublin v Wexford Leinster Semi-Final 2009

Dublin and Wexford meet once again in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship this weekend.

The two counties have played out some classics over the years and we’ve taken a look back at our meeting with Wexford in the Leinster semi-final at Nowlan Park back in 2009.

Dublin would edge out Wexford by two-points and secure our first Leinster Senior Hurling Championship Final place since 1991.

Alan McCrabbe would grab the headlines with his performance, as he scored 0-10 to round off a fine individual and team performance.

McCrabbe, Shane Durkin and David Treacy were the men who put Dublin in a commanding position, while David Redmond and Diarmuid Lyng got the Slaneysiders up and running, but it was the Boys in Blue leading at the break, to the tune of 0-11 to 0-7.

Nicky Kirwan burst the Dublin net when the match restarted and despite Lyng drawing Wexford level in the 44th minute, Dublin showed the hunger and desire to pull away from their opponents.

David O’Callaghan got in on the scoring action alongside McCrabbe to put Dublin back in control of proceedings.

After 14 minutes without a single score from either side, Simon Lambert helped Dublin into a 0-17 to 1-10 lead.

Wexford were not going quietly and Lyng was keeping Wexford’s Leinster dreams alive and the gap was just one as the game approached injury-time.

Dublin would lose Kevin Flynn to a red card and McCrabbe to injury. Those two events would slightly take the gloss off a good team performance, but victory and a spot in the final were secured by a second Lambert point.

Dublin would suffer a 2-18 to 0-18 defeat at the hands of eventual All-Ireland champions Kilkenny in the provincial final.
